Different Shapes of Alif ا with examples

1.Isolated shape of alif in the beginning of word:

Allah الله

First اوّل

Last آخر

2.Isolated shape of alif in the middle of words:

marriage زَوَاج

Animal حيوان

Final shape /middle shape of Alif in words:

book كِتَاب

beauty جَمَال

day نَهَار

sky سَمَاء

Alif is the first letter in Arabic alphabets it look like this ” ا “.
Alif does not has any symbol or skoon or harakat.
On the other hand hamza is the second last letter of ِِArabic alphabets, it look like this ” ء “.
But sometimes Alif is also calls Hamza when it has some symbol or character.
Means Alif ا can be transform from plain alif ا to hmza ء when some special characters or symbol or harakat are over or under it.

For example; ا + َ = اَ

Here when zbr َ character is put over alif ا it turns into hmza اَ

though alif hmza آ is different in look from letter hmza ء but it also call hmza.

It shows that when alif has some sign or character over or under it than it calls hamza though it looks the same but it does not call alif any more.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF HAMZA TRANSFORMED FROM ALIF

Both Alif ا and Hmza ء has the same sound
They are interchangeable
Both are alternative of each other.
That’s why Arabic letters are said to have 28 and sometimes 29 alphabets.Because of this reason.

The difference is alif is the first letter of alphabets and hmza is second last letter of alphabets.

Alif makes a vowel sound but hmza makes a consonant sound.

Alif is a letter itself but hamza hardly comes as a separate letter instead it comes in form of

1.Alif hmza words with ftha:

best أَفْضَل

lion أَسْد

earth أَرْض

2.Alif hmza words with kasra:

brother أِخْوَة

name أِسْم

camel أِبْل

3.Alif hmza words with dumma:

sister أُخْت

teacher أُسْتَاذ

ear أُذُن
