What is the difference between Similar Sounding Arabic Letter yaa ى as vowel and as consonant?
- Basic difference of yaa ى as consonant and as vowel is of articulation point.
- The consonant و is pronounced from central part of tongue which is the articulation point of a yaa ى
- But vowel yaa ى is pronounced from empty part of mouth which is the articulation point of madd.
- Consonant yaa ى can carry all three signs of Arabic {ftha ,ksra,dumma} .But for vowel waaw must followed by kasra. As if it does not followed by kasra it does not make vowel{yaa madda}.
- Sound of yaa as consonant is short but as vowel it is long.
